Piercing Bump or Keloid? Know the Difference 👂✨
Not every bump around a piercing is a keloid. Understanding what you’re looking at can help you decide what to do next.
🔹 A Typical Piercing Bump
A small bump near a new or healing piercing can sometimes develop after the area has been repeatedly irritated. Pressure, snagging, movement, or sensitivity around the piercing may all play a role.
These bumps usually stay close to the piercing site and may look red, pink, or similar to your natural skin tone.
Giving the piercing time to heal and avoiding unnecessary irritation may help — but persistent bumps should always be assessed by a qualified professional.
🔸 A Keloid Scar
A keloid is a type of raised scar that can continue growing beyond the original piercing wound. It often feels firm or rubbery and may become itchy, uncomfortable, or change in appearance over time.
Unlike a temporary irritation-related bump, a true keloid usually does not simply disappear on its own and may require treatment from a dermatologist.
✨ The important part? Don’t self-diagnose.
If a bump keeps growing, extends beyond the piercing area, becomes painful, or simply doesn’t seem to be improving, speak with an experienced piercer or healthcare professional.
Your piercing deserves patience, proper care, and the right advice. 💛
